How to change your Orca Forum Layout Look and Design the simple way.

If we open /orca/xml/design.php near the top of the page a few lines down we will find this piece of code:

require_once( BX_DIRECTORY_PATH_INC . 'params.inc.php' );
require_once( BX_DIRECTORY_PATH_ROOT . "templates/tmpl_{$tmpl}/scripts/functions.php" );
require_once( BX_DIRECTORY_PATH_INC . 'design.inc.php' );

$_page['name_index']     = 55;

if ( !( $logged['admin'] = member_auth( 1, false ) ) )
    if ( !( $logged['member'] = member_auth( 0, false ) ) )
        if ( !( $logged['aff'] = member_auth( 2, false ) ) )
            $logged['moderator'] = member_auth( 3, false );

Notice this part of the code specifically:
$_page['name_index']     = 55;

This tells us which .html file we might edit, change or alter to apply some simple changes to the layout of our forum.

We need to look in our template directory folder for page_55.html. If you have or use the default Dolphin template the location would be:

If you have a custom template or other downloaded free or pay template your directory/folder might be something else. Simply replace tmpl_uni with the name/folder/directory of your template.

Although there isn't much to page_55.html it's a good idea to download and back it up. If we mess up we can quickly restore it in a matter of seconds and try again.

Now if we open the file:

We will see that it is pretty plain and simple:
__include _header.html__
__include _footer.html__

Basically it says use _header.html, _footer.html and the page main code.

Here I will add some simple google adsense code near the top of the forum by simply adding/inserting my code into page_55.html and saving the changes like so:

__include _header.html__

<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-6466712554337147";
/* 728x15, created 11/2/08 */
google_ad_slot = "7650700606";
google_ad_width = 728;
google_ad_height = 15;
<script type="text/javascript"

__include _footer.html__

I still have the references to _header.html, _footer.html, and the page main code. I simply added google adsense after _header.html reference and before the page main code reference.

What this does is adds google adsense to the top of my forum.

I just used Google Adsense as an example. Insert or add any html code. Add your design, pictures, graphics, logos, etc. Pretty much any standard html code you can think of.

Pretty fast and simple. Use your imagination and you can really do a lot with this.
