This was mentioned recently and I actually meant to write something up about this, but since adding the forum spy modification to the main page this slipped my mind.
If you want your Forum Feeds or Other RSS Feeds on your homepage to open in the same window then this is for you.
The default Orca forum feeds on your homepage when you click on a link a new window opens to the forum. For some this can be a little annoying. It can be much more pleasant for your members and guest if they stay in the same browser window.
I recently saw a post at boonex that reminded me about this one.
The following is based on Boonex Dolphin 6.1x.
You can change this rather fast and quick. There isn't much to it.
Only drawbacks are if you do run other rss feeds to other sites on your homepage they will no longer open in a new window either. They will take you to the new site serving up the feed...ie the visitor will leave your site.
But if you don't have any rss feeds from other sites than this is not a problem and should work great for you.
First back up the file:
<a href="' + item.link + '" target="_blank">' + item.title + '</a>' +
Change it to either of the following:
<a href="' + item.link + '" target="_top">' + item.title + '</a>' +
<a href="' + item.link + '" target="_self">' + item.title + '</a>' +
Now that takes care of the actual forum links, but do not forget about the "Forum Posts" link in the lower right corner either.
Now just scroll down a little bit further and find this guy:
'<a href="' + feed.link + '" target="_blank">' + feed.title + '</a>' +
'<a href="' + feed.link + '" target="_top">' + feed.title + '</a>' +
'<a href="' + feed.link + '" target="_self">' + feed.title + '</a>' +
Save file and re-upload overwriting the original.
Simply refresh your homepage and verify the changes are successful. If all is well you should go to your forum post without a new window opening.
