A while back I decided to add a Wordpress base blog to this site. At first I was a little reluctant and I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to go this route. Here it is barely 5 months later, and I am telling myself I wish I had added it sooner.
You might be wondering why. There are several reasons, but here are a few:
Since adding a Wordpress Blog to dialme.com
I can participate in both communities or worlds by having both Boonex Dolphin and Wordpress installed. It's kind of a two for one deal. Granted there is a little more time and work involved.
There are certain features I like and dislike about each, and I could ramble on about them for hours if I wanted. Since I don't have hours, and to keep this short here are a couple of thoughts:
Wordpress community is generally positive, friendly, and helpful. It is extremely easy to use. It is very easy to change the layout and design. Upgrading only takes seconds with a click of your mouse. There are more free awesome plugins than I could even count. You can do some amazing things with Wordpress, but it is limited to some extent. It does what it is supposed to, and does a great job at it.
Dolphin community is up and down. You never know what you're going to get. They seem to argue a lot and want to 1 up each other. It is not very easy to use especially if you are new to it. Changing the layout and design can be both time-consuming and difficult depending on your knowledge of the script and template system. Upgrading is currently a manual process. There are some really good modules, but only a handful are free. I do like Dolpin for all the cool built in features. It is tough to find a script that has so many features available all in one package.
I love Wordpress for simplicity and ease of use. I love Dolphin for all the fancy extra features.
It would be extremely difficult to pick one or the other. I guess it would depend on what your needs are and how much additional programming knowledge one had. If you are not that good with modifying and changing code and just want a simple easy to handle site, then Wordpress might be right for you. If you are up for a challenge and are comfortable with modifying and changing code, then Dolphin might be what you have been looking for.
I intend to use both Dolphin and Wordpress here on this site.
