It seems that Google is creating quite a stir recently over Bing copying Google search results to some extent. It is a bit confusing and hard to follow. I am kind of neutral on the topic, but it is interesting reading.
Apparently Google made some kind of searches with a random string of letters that linked to some site or page that was fake or didn't exist or something. Shortly after doing so the same or nearly the same results wound up in Bing search results.
Google seems to be saying that if someone does a Google search with internet explorer and clicks on a link Bing somehow tracks that and uses that information as part of the Bing algorithm.
Maybe they do, maybe they don't. Maybe it is alright and maybe it's not. Like I said it is a bit confusing and hard to follow.
It is obvious that neither Google or Microsoft/Bing like one another that well. It's not like either one of them ever did anything or continues to do something that is copied or based on something else.
You can read about it over in Matt Cutt's blog here:
My thoughts on this week’s debate
It is fairly long and detailed with screen shot examples for comparison and explanation. He seems a little worked up over it, and it is kind of interesting.
I have a feeling it won't be the last time we see the two giants getting into it!
