Tutorial

For those of you that are not familiar with Google Webmaster Tools, you really should get one of these FREE accounts from Google. Like all other Google related products and sites it is relatively simple and easy to navigate.

Webmaster Tools can and will provide you with a wealth of useful information. Everything to links, Google crawls, search queries, any errors it finds. You name it this is one account everyone really should have.

If you are new to it or even if you have had a Google Webmaster Tools account for a while maybe you haven't noticed the new option to set a "Custom Crawl Rate".

By default Google is set to determine your crawl rate. Google generally does a pretty decent job at this, but not always. Some people just simply prefer to set their own rate.

I have not enabled the "Custom Crawl Rate" in my webmaster tools account yet. However, I have read many positive posts from people who have.

If your site changes often...such as you add or change content. Whether it be new members, blogs, articles, photo's or anything in between. The theory is that this should get Google to visit your site more often, which should potentially help it find the new content and index it much faster.

I have not tried it yet, but it is on my list of things to do.

I just thought I would point this out as a tip, as many people didn't even know it was there or an option.
