Tutorial

If you are new to Dolphin 7 and Orca Forum you may or may not be aware of the Flag/Unflag feature. Although Flagging a forum topic might seem a little strait forward to some, it can also be a little confusing.

When you flag a topic it will be added to your list of flagged topics so you can find them in your account easier later. Once you have flagged a forum topic or post if someone replies to it you will get an automatic email notification.

Many other forums tend to refer to the Flags as Subscribe or Subscribing to a topic.

Although Flag/Unflag is somewhat a Boonex preference you can easily rename these references to Subscribe/Unsubscribe. Which might make more sense, and be easier to understand the concept.

You can easily change the Flags to Subscribe/Unsubscribe or anything else you would like them to say by editing 1 little file.

First download and backup the file:
/modules/boonex/forum/integrations/base/langs/en.php

Then open the file with your favorite text editor and simply search and find all references to Flag. Change them to Subscribe, subscribed, subscription, etc. Same with Unflag, change to unsubscribe, or similar.

Example en.php file original:

$GLOBALS['L'] = array (
    'Forums Index' => 'Forums Index',
    'Forums' => 'Forums',
    'Forum' => 'Forum',
    'Topics' => 'Topics',
    'Topic' => 'Topic',
    'Orca Forum' => ':: Orca Forum',
    'Logged in as' => 'Logged in as',
    'Manage Forum' => 'Manage Forum',
    'Reported Posts' => 'Reported Posts',
    'Logout' => 'Logout',
    'My Flags' => 'My Flags',
    'My Topics' => 'My Topics',
    'Login' => 'Login',
    'Search' => 'Search',
    'Copyright' => 'Copyright 2008 My Company',
    'New Group' => 'New Group',
    'New Topic' => 'New Topic',
    'Post Reply' => 'Post Reply',
    'Flag/Unflag' => 'Flag/Unflag',
    'Lock/Unlock' => 'Lock/Unlock',

After making some changes to en.php file:

$GLOBALS['L'] = array (
    'Forums Index' => 'Forums Index',
    'Forums' => 'Forums',
    'Forum' => 'Forum',
    'Topics' => 'Topics',
    'Topic' => 'Topic',
    'Orca Forum' => ':: Orca Forum',
    'Logged in as' => 'Logged in as',
    'Manage Forum' => 'Manage Forum',
    'Reported Posts' => 'Reported Posts',
    'Logout' => 'Logout',
    'My Flags' => 'My Subscriptions',
    'My Topics' => 'My Topics',
    'Login' => 'Login',
    'Search' => 'Search',
    'Copyright' => 'Copyright 2008 My Company',
    'New Group' => 'New Group',
    'New Topic' => 'New Topic',
    'Post Reply' => 'Post Reply',
    'Flag/Unflag' => 'Subscribe/Unsubscribe',
    'Lock/Unlock' => 'Lock/Unlock',

Keep going through the file and applying changes. It's not a huge file, but there are a number of flag references throughout the entire file.

Note: While you are there you might like to change a few others as well to personalize your forum and do away with some of the Orca Forum references too.

Save the changes to en.php back to your hosting/server account.

Then you need to compile the forum language file in your dolphin admin panel. Log into your Dolphin 7 admin panel. Navigate to Modules...Orca forum.

Navigate to Orca Forum

Then click on the "Compile Language File - en". It should say Language files have been successfully compiled.

Compile Orca Language

Refresh your forum to verify the changes.

Navigate to a forum topic and subscribe to a topic / thread to test.

Default Dolphin 7 Orca Forum with Flag/Unflag:

Orca Flag - Unflag

After changing to Subscribe/Unsubscribe:

Orca Subscribe - Unsubscribe

Note:
Be sure to thoroughly search the entire en.php file for ALL references to Flag so you get them all. Don't forget to compile language - en if you make additional changes.

Change the Dolphin 7 navigation menu link for Flagged Topics to Subscribed Topics. Do not change the link, just the text. You can change your Dolphin 7 Navigation Menu Link by searching the Language Settings for flag.

Once the results are returned you can simply click on edit the _bx_forum_menu_flagged_topics

Dolphin 7 Admin Search Language Flag

After clicking edit a window/prompt will open and just change Flagged Topics to Subscribed Topics and save it.

Edit Language Key

You might change the _Flag and _adm_txt_langs_flag language keys too in the above screen shot.

Additional:
The links or address will remain the same in your address bar. However, if you and your members can more easily relate to subscribe it might make things easier. Most people will not pay much attention to the flagged in the address bar, but they will pay attention to how to navigate your site.

If you wanted to change the links as well, then you it will be more work. Which I do not have time to explain at the time of this posting.

Other:
Although it is nice to flag or subscribe to a topic so you can find it easier. The drawback is currently there is not much control over it. If you flag or subscribe to a particular topic you will receive a notification whenever anyone replies to it. It can be annoying to receive 100 automatic notifications.
