Once again Twitter makes headlines. This time a Ddos attack. Just a few weeks ago someone was able to gain access to Twitter and get a number of private documents including financial data. This brings up the question just how safe is Twitter. Certainly the more popular a site is like Twitter, the number of attempts would likely increase.
According to various news reports it was an apparent attempt to silence one of Twitter's more verbal members. The member was also active at Facebook, and Google Blogger which reported similar issues associated with a Ddos attack.
Twitter members reported the site being extremely slow and pages not loading. It did eventually go down completely. Facebook and Google Blogger were said to be very slow at times and brief outages were also reported. For the most part Facebook and Google were able to quickly slow the attack, and prevent major outages. Twitter was not as prompt however, and it took longer for them to ward off the attack and resume normal operations.
Hopefully this will serve as a wake up call for Twitter, and they come up with a better means of preventing Ddos attacks as well as enhanced general security measures for their members in the future.
Everyone loves Twitter right now, but like any site big or small they are not immune. Hopefully this will prompt other sites to review their security and Ddos prevention methods they have in place.
