Monthly Uptime Report

I recently wrote about free uptime performance monitoring by Pingdom. It is actually a really great service and you can't beat free.

If you check out various hosting plans most seem to quote a 99.5% or 99.9% uptime guarantee. With the majority of them claiming a 99.9% uptime guarantee.

So after setting Pingdom to 5 minute checks here are the results of my uptime for the month of June 2011.

As you can see I had 99.81% uptime with 9 outages for a total of 1 hour and 20 minutes of downtime. Which is pretty darn close to the 99.9% figure most hosting companies are suggesting.

The 1222 ms response time seems a little high, but some of the checking stations or locations are located 1/2 way around the world. It takes an average of all the checks and comes up with this number.

I have been fairly pleased for a while with the uptime, but I will continue watching my Pingdom monthly reports for a while. I have had hosts in the past that were more in the 80%-90% range at best. So overall I am content with this monthly report. After all, the server will likely be rebooted at some point, and potential upgrades and other server maintenance alone could easily cause 1 hour of down time.
